BULLYING (উৎপীড়ন/নিপীড়ন)
Bullying means deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal. physical, social behaviour or social media with intention of causing physical, social, psychological or economic harm. It can involve an individual or a group who misuses their power over an individual or more than one person feeling helpless and unable to protect himself or themselves from the threatened harm. Bullying is a global phenomenon. A survey conducted by UNICEF in 2014 shows that students aged between 13 and 15 have experienced bullying of different forms and magnitudes at different rates in their schools. In Bangladesh, 35% of students between 13 and 15 are reported to have been bullied one or more days in 30 days or involved in a physical fight at least once in 12 months in 2014. According to the report worldwide, half of students aged between 13 and 15 around 150 million have experienced peer-to-peer violence like physical fights or forms of bullying from their peers in and around school. The report also shows around 720 million schoolgoing children living in many countries are not completely protected by law against forms of physical punishment at school. Education is the key to creating a civilized and peaceful societies, but children around the world undergo different forms of violence and harassment in and outside school. The report exposes girls are more likely to suffer psychological forms of bullying while boys are more at risk of physical violence and threats. At present. cyberbullying has become a very common experience by students especially by female students. This crime is committed through social media. In case of cyberbullying, a criminal posts unwanted or private information, threats a person by sending defamatory messages via emails. social networking websites. They often share religiously prejudicial message and spread rumours through social media sharing private or embarassing pictures, creating fake profiles, etc. However, these crimes are punishable under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act 2006. The victims reporting to the legal authority can get legal solution or justice rapidly.
